What is Myriad Foresight Expanded Carrier Screening?

Genetic carrier screening tests to identify an increased risk of having children with serious, inherited, genetic conditions. The Myriad Foresight Screen detects over 175 conditions, such as:

  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Spinal muscular atrophy
  • Fragile X syndrome
  • Tay-Sachs disease
  • Congenital adrenal hyperplasia

Individually, inherited conditions are rare, but collectively the conditions included in the Foresight Carrier Screen affect up to 1 in 300 pregnancies. That’s higher than the incidence of Down syndrome. This screening test is capable of identifying more couples who are at risk of having a child with an inherited condition than the standard genetic carrier screen, which only looks at the three most common conditions.
