Biography

Dr Maryam Shamassi completed her Medical Doctorate (MD) in Iran, before moving to Australia in 2006. She worked at multiple hospitals in Queensland as a medical officer, before moving to Melbourne to pursue her career in Pathology. Following training as a pathology registrar at Monash Medical Centre, Royal Children’s and Royal Women’s hospitals as well as Healthscope Pathology, she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2016.In 2019, she spent six months at John Radcliff Hospital in Oxford, UK, doing a research fellowship in medical renal pathology.

Maryam returned to DOR as the Head of Anatomical Pathology at Western Health in early 2022, after working at Monash Medical Centre for 2 years.

She enjoys all aspects of anatomical pathology with special interest in Renal pathology, gynaecological pathology and uropathology. Maryam is also very passionate about research and teaching.
