Dr. James Knox

Dr James Knox completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales and went on to complete his specialty training as both an Infectious Diseases Physician and Microbiologist. He has wide ranging clinical and laboratory experience, having worked at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Austin Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, and the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory during his training.His background also includes a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from Liverpool University, and humanitarian relief work with Medecins Sans Frontieres. As a field doctor, he managed large medical teams in both Angola and the Darfur region of Sudan.Dr Knox has made research contributions to new methods for the detection of multi-resistant bacteria. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia Grant-in-Aid which allowed him to pursue an investigation into the use of mass spectrometry for this purpose.

He is a member of the Australian Society for Microbiology and The Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases. In 2019, Dr Knox took on the role of Head of Microbiology at DOR. He also practices as an Infectious Diseases Physician.
